Caught nude in public

Nowhere to hide

No shelter to find

So many beautiful coverings

But none found this time.



How shameful it must feel

Your life in tatters

Just like your dress

But you’re still lovely

This I must confess.



You still stand proud

Tall. straight and strong

You know your beauty

Shelter will soon be found

When spring returns and

New life abounds.



Sun and warmth to the

Earth return spurring the

Buds and seeds to burst

Their growth almost a race

Filling your world with color.



In a short measure of time

When all is said and done

Your leaves will return and

You’ll be naked no more.







Sitting in traffic the other day I looked up on a hillside where a single birch tree stood. It's limbs shorn of leaves, it had no coverings at all and I was thinking of how proudly it still stood there all alone waiting for springs return.
